Getting Accurate Quotes for Home Repairs: What to Include

How to describe your job so professionals can give you accurate, comparable quotes. Save time and avoid surprises.

Vague requests lead to vague quotes. When you're clear about what you need, professionals can give you accurate, comparable prices. Here's what to include.

The Basics

Job type. "Plumbing," "Electrical," "Painting," etc. Pick the category that best fits.

What exactly needs to be done. "Replace kitchen faucet" is better than "fix kitchen." "Install ceiling fan in living room" is better than "electrical work."

Location. Parish and area (e.g., "Kingston 8," "Montego Bay, Gloucester Ave"). Pros need to know if they can reach you.

When you need it. "As soon as possible," "This weekend," or a specific date helps pros plan.

Add Details

Measurements. For painting, flooring, or fencing, dimensions matter. "Paint living room, approximately 12ft x 15ft" helps.

Photos. A picture of a leak, damaged wall, or broken fixture helps pros understand the job.

Access. Is it easy to get to? Any stairs, narrow entrances, or parking restrictions?

Materials. Do you want the pro to supply materials, or will you? This affects the quote.

What to Expect

With a clear request, you'll get quotes that you can compare fairly. Pros may ask follow-up questions in chat—that's a good sign they're taking the job seriously.

Start your request and let our AI assistant help you structure it.
