Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 20, 2026

Zilroo ("we", "our", or "us") operates this platform and acts as the data controller for personal information described here. This policy explains what we collect, how we process it, who we share it with, and your choices when you use Zilroo to connect with skilled professionals in Jamaica. For rules of use, see our Terms of Use.

1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated when you use Zilroo:

  • Account information: Name, email address, password (stored in hashed form by our authentication provider), account role (customer or professional), and profile details you choose to add.
  • Job requests: Job descriptions, photos or videos you attach, location (parish and area), property type, budget preferences, urgency, and related details you enter in the request flow.
  • Quotes, hires, and invitations: Quotes you send or receive, hire decisions, job status, invitations to professionals to quote on a request, and related records needed to run the marketplace.
  • Contact details: Phone number and preferred contact method, used only within our platform as described below.
  • Messages: Content of in-app messages between customers and professionals, including timestamps and related metadata needed to deliver chat.
  • Reviews and ratings: Feedback, ratings, and related information you submit after work is completed.
  • Professional profiles: For professionals, we collect business and profile details you provide, such as service areas, specializations, bio, education, certifications, employment history, portfolio or featured work images, and avatar photos.
  • Identity verification (professionals only): If you apply to be verified, we collect images of a government-issued ID and a live selfie (or equivalent photos you submit through our verification flow), and related details needed to review your submission. These materials are used only to confirm identity and trust and safety; they are not shown on your public profile. Verification may involve manual review by our team or authorised administrators.
  • Notifications: In-app notifications about jobs, quotes, invites, messages, and similar events, including metadata needed to show and deliver them. Where enabled, we may also send service emails to your account email address for key marketplace events (for example, new quotes, hire confirmations, or invitations to a job), in addition to in-app notices.
  • Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, session identifiers, and similar data needed to secure logins, prevent abuse, and operate the service (for example, rate limiting on certain sign-in and security-sensitive pages). Limited technical identifiers may be processed by our rate-limiting service when enabled.

2. How we process your data

"Processing" includes collecting, storing, retrieving, using, disclosing, updating, and deleting personal information. We process data only where we have a lawful basis under applicable law (for example: to perform our contract with you, for our legitimate interests in operating a safe marketplace, where you have given consent, or where the law requires it). Depending on the situation, purposes include:

  • Providing the service: To create and secure your account, display profiles and requests, match customers with professionals, deliver messaging, and show listings and reviews as described in our product.
  • Verification and safety: To review professional identity submissions, reduce fraud, and protect users. This may include manual review of ID and selfie images by authorised staff.
  • Communications: To send service-related notices (for example, account, security, or job updates) and, where you have opted in, marketing or product messages in line with your preferences (see our Marketing Communications page).
  • Legal and compliance: To comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our terms and policies.
  • Improvement: To understand how the platform is used, fix issues, and improve features (using aggregated or de-identified information where possible).

We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you without human involvement. Professional verification decisions may involve human review.

Data is processed on secure cloud infrastructure. Our primary database, authentication, encrypted file storage for uploads (for example profile and verification images), realtime delivery of messages, and transactional email for account security (such as email confirmation and password reset) are provided through Supabase (or successor providers with equivalent commitments). Transactional email about marketplace activity (such as new quotes, hire confirmations, or job invitations) is delivered using Resend as our email sending provider; Resend processes your email address and the content needed to deliver those messages. The public website and application may be hosted with providers such as Vercel or equivalents; they process technical data needed to serve traffic.

Where we enable optional services, we may use Upstash (or similar) for rate limiting; that can involve short-lived storage of identifiers such as IP address or hashed keys to enforce per-minute limits on certain routes. If rate limiting falls back to our database, similar limits may be recorded there instead.

Data may be stored or processed in jurisdictions where those providers operate (which may include outside Jamaica). We use contractual and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

3. How we use your information

In practice, we use your information to:

  • Connect customers with professionals who can help with their requests
  • Enable secure, in-platform communication
  • Display profiles and job-related information to relevant users
  • Send in-app and, where enabled, email notifications about quotes, messages, and job updates
  • Operate verification, trust, and safety processes for professionals
  • Improve our platform, support, and user experience
  • Comply with applicable laws and enforce our terms

Payments: Today, payment for work is typically arranged directly between customers and professionals outside Zilroo's payment systems. We do not collect or store your bank or card details for those arrangements. If we introduce in-app payments or subscriptions later, we will update this policy and tell you how payment data is processed.

4. Privacy protections

Phone numbers: Your phone number is not shown to other users for direct calling or messaging outside the platform. Communication is intended to stay on Zilroo.

Address: Professionals typically see parish and general area until you hire; fuller address details are shared only as needed after a hire, as described in the product flow.

In-app messaging: We store messages securely and may use them to support disputes, safety reviews, or inquiries when necessary.

Verification images: ID and selfie images submitted for professional verification are used only for identity review and related compliance; they are not used as profile photos for customers to browse.

5. Information sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only as follows:

  • With other users as needed to operate the marketplace (for example, showing a professional your job details after you invite or hire them)
  • With infrastructure and service providers who host the application and data, deliver authentication and security-related email (through Supabase), deliver transactional marketplace email (through Resend when that feature is enabled), store files, provide realtime messaging, or help with abuse prevention (including Supabase and, when configured, rate-limiting providers such as Upstash), under confidentiality and appropriate data-protection terms
  • With professional advisers where required (for example, legal or accounting)
  • When required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and integrity

6. Data security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure storage through our providers. No system is completely secure; we ask that you use a strong password and keep your account credentials private.

If we become aware of a personal data breach that is likely to affect your rights, we will notify you and regulators when required by applicable law.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to keep you logged in, protect the site, and remember essential preferences. We may also use analytics or performance cookies to understand how the platform is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may affect how the site works.

8. Your rights

Depending on applicable law (including data protection law in Jamaica and elsewhere), you may have the right to:

  • Access and receive a copy of your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your data, subject to legal exceptions
  • Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority where you live

To exercise these rights or ask questions about how we process your data, contact us at support@zilroo.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.

If you are in Jamaica and believe we have not handled your personal information properly, you may also contact the Office of the Information Commissioner (or any successor oversight body responsible for privacy under Jamaican law).

9. Data retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active, as needed to provide services, resolve disputes, meet legal and regulatory requirements, and defend claims. Verification-related records may be kept for a period consistent with trust and safety and legal obligations. You may request account deletion; some information may be retained where the law requires or permits.

10. Children

Zilroo is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on our platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
